This program is simple to access and such a blessing to our families! It covers hearing technology, including Cochlear Implant Processor Replacements, Hearing Aids, Ear Molds, Remote Microphone Systems (like FM systems), Batteries, Bed Shaker Alarms, and Audiology Services.
Use your current audiologist. Applying is easy, quick, and Sertoma staff will help you through it.
Families without insurance coverage for the technology may qualify under one of two criteria:
Birth to 18 with family income up to 400% of the federal poverty level.
Children with additional healthcare needs may qualify up to age 21 with no income cap.
Reach out to Sertoma for official qualification information and to apply. (Children on FL Medicaid do not qualify currently.)
This fund was created through parent advocacy working with our pro bono lobbyist, parent volunteers, professional collaborative partner organizations, and the Florida Legislature and signed by the Governor. We are thankful for the Department of Health and for Sertoma Speech and Hearing Foundation who does an excellent job administering this program in a way that maximizes the families helped.
Florida families can access qualified auditory oral services from Listening and Spoken Language Specialists at no cost to the family.
Early Intervention (Ages birth until the 3rd birthday)
Currently, services may be provided either in person or remotely (anywhere in Florida) by Clarke Schools for Hearing and Speech or the University of Miami Debbie Institute. These services do not conflict with Early Steps Services, which your child might need for additional disabilities. There are no income requirements. Contact the providers for more information and to apply for services.
Bridge to Speech and Auditory Oral Education (Ages 3-7)
These services are also provided both in person and remotely anywhere in Florida. In addition to direct auditory oral services, providers can partner with your local school district to provide support, training, and consultation at no cost to the district. Pediatric hearing loss is a low incidence disability that a district may not see often. Support is available to help them help your child!
To find out more about these services, contact either Clarke Schools for Hearing and Speech or the University of Miami Debbie Institute.
